Artificial Grass Maintenance Tips | Orlando, FL

March 15, 2017

One of the most appealing things about artificial grass maintenance is that it’s just so much easier than a natural lawn. With a traditional lawn, you’re always going to be mowing, edging, sodding, re-seeding, as well as a ton of other things. Fortunately, artificial grass doesn’t have any of that kind of labor. Making it look great is not that difficult. In fact, other that debris from trees, you basically have no maintenance to do. Here are a couple things that you may want to know about artificial grass maintenance.

How do I care for my artificial grass lawn?

Whether you have artificial turf or a natural lawn, there’s always going to be some kind of organic debris on your lawn. Maybe it’ll be sticks or leaves from nearby trees and shrubs. Maybe it’ll be falling tree bark. Either way, you’ll get the same result – lawn debris.

There is an important thing to note though – falling branches. If a big branch falls on a natural lawn, it can create divots in the sod, but if a big branch falls on artificial turf, it can cause problems. Specifically, a large falling branch can potentially damage the backing, which would require a repair. It can also disrupt the infill, requiring you to replace some of the infill lost, and possibly even require the use of a power broom. Either way, this is something to note for Easy Turf customers. Fortunately, we only choose the highest quality products, so the likelihood that falling branches will require repairs is low. If however, your turf does need a repair, you can always contact our customer service department, and we will do everything in our power to get your turf looking amazing.

In artificial grass maintenance, it’s essential to use the right equipment. That being said, never, ever use tools that have steel points or spikes. Steel can easily rip the mesh backing, which causes permanent damage. We suggest using:

  • Rakes with plastic points
  • Leaf catchers
  • Leaf blowers
  • Turf brushes

What about pet waste on my artificial grass lawn?

We highly recommend lightly rising the lawn about once a month. Doing this allows dirt to break down properly and to wash away pet waste. If your dog regularly uses your turf installation as their pee pad, you should wash the grass as soon as they’re done doing their business. If you don’t, your turf may be subject to locking in the smells. Also, pet urine contains bacteria that could eventually damage the turf, if your turf has its drainage blocked, so be mindful.

Although these seem a little difficult, artificial grass maintenance is nowhere near as cumbersome as maintaining a natural lawn. While yard work may have originally taken up a large chunk of your Saturdays or Sundays, it will now take a matter of minutes.
