THE BENEFIT OF GETTING ARTIFICIAL TURF FOR POOL AREAS | Tampa, FL

THE BENEFIT OF GETTING ARTIFICIAL TURF FOR POOL AREAS

faux lawn, fake lawn, artificial grass lawn, artificial lawn, fake grass
Artificial grass is a great option for pool decks.

We all have seen how artificial turf for pool areas can make backyards look beautiful. In general, artificial turf will make your backyard look much more organized, just because it always looks good, unlike natural grass. The problem with natural grass in pool areas is that the pool’s maintenance chemicals can kill the grass. What’s worse, people can track mud into the pool. This isn’t ideal for anyone, and can even cause problems with the pool’s filter.

Maintaining a backyard pool isn’t easy. You have to balance the chlorine and other chemicals. You have to make sure that organic debris from trees doesn’t get into the pool. Sometimes you’ll have to drain it to clean all of the hard to reach areas. Usually this type of work is best left to a professional. Either way, it’s going to cost a lot of time, money, or both. Combine that with the cost and time of maintaining your natural landscape, and you’ll either need to be very rich, or have a lot of free time. Most people are neither very rich, and if they are, they don’t have a lot of free time. But when getting artificial turf for pool areas, there are some additional benefits that you may not have considered.

SAFETY

We all want people to be safe, especially when we’re having backyard parties, or even just taking a leisurely swim. How many times have we been cautious when getting out of the pool? Wet cement can be very slick, and with excited kids, this can present a safety hazard. Falling on natural grass is obviously safer than falling on cement, but keeping natural grass right next to the pool invites a host of other problems.

With Easy Turf’s artificial grass, you’ll immediately avoid these types of hazards. The traction of artificial turf is far better than the traction of cement, whether it’s wet or not. This allows you to rest easy, knowing that your family will be safer in your backyard.

DEBRIS AND CONTAMINATION

One of the biggest issues with natural grass is that it creates mud. While it may not be raining in dry summer months, having a pool will definitely expose your lawn to water, which creates mud. This requires additional maintenance, which is rarely fun. In addition to the mud, your pool is more vulnerable to collecting stray blades of grass from your lawn. This will mean you have to clean it more often, than if you choose artificial turf.

With artificial turf, the only thing you may track into the pool is stray bits of infill. If you end up going with a sand infill for your turf, you aren’t likely to track very much into the pool. This means that you’ll clean it less often, freeing you up to spend more of your time doing what you want.

Eliminate More Pests and Animals with Artificial Turf | Winter Park, FL

ELIMINATE MORE PESTS AND ANIMALS WITH ARTIFICIAL TURF

A virtually pest-free yard begins with artificial turf. Synthetic grass can help eliminate many of the troublesome insects and animals because it reduces areas for them to feed and breed.

Eliminate more pests with artificial turf.

Insects like ants, flies and mosquitos cause a lot of aggravation to homeowners every year. The construction and materials of artificial turf will prevent them from breeding in your yard. Simply put, there is nothing there that will attract them.

Artificial turf has a durable backing that prevents access to dirt. Without dirt, insects have no way to build nests or feed. Without nearby food, insects will not remain on your lawn. This is particularly beneficial to reducing bugs like ants, fleas, and ticks.

ARTIFICIAL TURF ELIMINATES STAGNANT WATER

An artificial turf installation levels out a yard, so there are no puddles or collection spots for stagnant water. This prevents mosquitos from nesting and breeding. Synthetic grass comes with a solid drainage system so water can flow away from the yard, preventing pooling.

ARTIFICIAL GRASS PROMOTES HEALTH

Officials in both Miami and Louisiana recently showed concerns of mosquitos carrying the zika virus. In both places, concerns are rising in areas where there is a lot of water. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states homeowners should do some things at home to prevent mosquitos and limit the possibility of encountering the zika virus. Some of those suggestions include removing any standing water, covering cisterns and water holding tanks and killing mosquitos with pesticides or sprays. Synthetic grass will eliminate water pooling and lets you avoid using harmful insecticides because mosquitos simply won’t nest in your yard.

Easy cleanup of pet messes prevents flies from hanging around. All you have to do is pick up the fecal matter to throw away and then spray down with a hose. Getting rid of flies will also make for a healthier life because flies also carry disease. Anyone who has every had a cookout knows that flies try to land on food. This is how the bacterial disease shigella is spread – flies going from feces to food.

ANIMALS LEAVE YOUR YARD ALONE

Artificial turf reduces the amount of wildlife visiting your yard also. Small animals like rabbits, mice, gophers and raccoons like to chew on various plants, grasses or dig holes to nest. They can’t do any of that with artificial turf. Rabbits and gophers will find it impossible to dig through the infill and backing and will soon discover artificial turf can’t be eaten. Field mice will move on to another spot for the same reason.

Not only is installing artificial turf good at making your lawn more enjoyable without pests, it is a humane way to reduce bothersome wildlife. You will never need to set a trap or kill an animal to keep them out of your yard. They will voluntarily leave you alone.

While pests may be a big problem, artificial turf offers an easy solution. It will ultimately save you money because you will no longer need to spend on insecticides traps, and other items to get rid of pests. Perhaps the best part is installing artificial grass will save you time as well because you will no longer need to fight pests to maintain control over your property. That’s time you can spend with family.

The Environmental Benefits of Artificial Turf | Sarasota, FL

THE MAJOR ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS OF ARTIFICIAL TURF

There are many environmental benefits of artificial turf. We all know that it reduces the cost of home landscape maintenance, but did you know that it also benefits our environment? Let’s examine a few of the reasons:

CONSERVING WATER

faux lawn, fake lawn, artificial grass lawn, artificial lawn, fake grass
Artificial grass saves water!

Even though the drought has been drastically reduced, we should still keep conservation on our mind. Based on recently EPA water usage statistics, most American families use around 320 gallons of water per day. Approximately 30 percent of that amount is allocated for outdoor use. Most of this is used to water lawns and other gardening applications. At a national level, irrigation for residential landscapes is almost one-third of total water use, which totals to almost 9 billion gallons per day.

Switching to synthetic grass almost entirely eliminates your home irrigation bill. You many have to sometimes use your hose to clean pet waste from the turf, but that’s about it. In fact, in 2013 alone, artificial grass lawns have saved more than 2.5 billion gallons of water worldwide.

DECREASING CO2 EMISSIONS

Some people genuinely like the act of mowing the lawn. It’s excellent for your physical health, but there are some problems with it. One is that it takes a long time, and other is that the gas emissions from a lawn mower can contribute to global CO2 levels. As of January 2017, there are 406 ppm (parts per million) of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This is approximately 0.04 percent of our atmosphere, which is not ideal for the residents of our planet.

With the ever fluctuating cost of gasoline and other fossil fuels, investing in artificial turf makes the most financial sense. While mowing your lawn may just seem routine, the carbon dioxide emissions can cause more pollution than you might imagine. With artificial turf, these problems simply vanish. Because artificial turf requires no mowing whatsoever, you are helping reduce pollution. The only real maintenance on artificial turf is occasionally having to brush away debris. Think of all the time you’ll save!

LESS CHEMICAL RUNOFF AND CONTAMINATION

Around 60 percent of fertilizer and other lawn chemicals are wasted, and ultimately contributes to chemical runoff. As many of us know, chemical runoff can have devastating environmental consequences. Many of these chemicals are highly toxic to animals and insects, and have the potential to decimate local ecosystems. They are also very dangerous to humans, particularly when consuming contaminated water.  Health problems such as birth defects and allergies are just a few of the effects of contaminated water exposure. With artificial turf, using maintenance chemicals like pesticides is absolutely unnecessary. In fact, in 2012, artificial turf installations have prevented the use of 1 billions gallons of pesticides and fertilizers!

There are many more environmental benefits of artificial turf. At Easy Turf, we have been helping our customers switch from natural grass to artificial turf for years. Call us today!

Artificial Grass Maintenance Tips | Orlando, FL

ARTIFICIAL GRASS MAINTENANCE TIPS

One of the most appealing things about artificial grass maintenance is that it’s just so much easier than a natural lawn. With a traditional lawn, you’re always going to be mowing, edging, sodding, re-seeding, as well as a ton of other things. Fortunately, artificial grass doesn’t have any of that kind of labor. Making it look great is not that difficult. In fact, other that debris from trees, you basically have no maintenance to do. Here are a couple things that you may want to know about artificial grass maintenance.

REMOVING ORGANIC DEBRIS

faux lawn, fake lawn, artificial grass lawn, artificial lawn, fake grass
How do I care for my artificial grass lawn?

Whether you have artificial turf or a natural lawn, there’s always going to be some kind of organic debris on your lawn. Maybe it’ll be sticks or leaves from nearby trees and shrubs. Maybe it’ll be falling tree bark. Either way, you’ll get the same result – lawn debris.

There is an important thing to note though – falling branches. If a big branch falls on a natural lawn, it can create divots in the sod, but if a big branch falls on artificial turf, it can cause problems. Specifically, a large falling branch can potentially damage the backing, which would require a repair. It can also disrupt the infill, requiring you to replace some of the infill lost, and possibly even require the use of a power broom. Either way, this is something to note for Easy Turf customers. Fortunately, we only choose the highest quality products, so the likelihood that falling branches will require repairs is low. If however, your turf does need a repair, you can always contact our customer service department, and we will do everything in our power to get your turf looking amazing.

HAVING THE RIGHT TOOLS

In artificial grass maintenance, it’s essential to use the right equipment. That being said, never, ever use tools that have steel points or spikes. Steel can easily rip the mesh backing, which causes permanent damage. We suggest using:

  • Rakes with plastic points
  • Leaf catchers
  • Leaf blowers
  • Turf brushes

RINSE AWAY PET WASTE OFTEN

Artificial Grass for Dogs aslowas99dollarspermonth,artificialgrass,tampabay,alternascapes,Sarasota,fl,puttinggreen,private,syntheticturf,artificialturf,syntheticgrass,fakegrass,residential,affordable,free estimate, happyclient, testimonials, backyardparadise, backyardoasis artificial dog grass, artificial grass, artificial lawn, astro turf, canine turf, fake grass, fake lawn, faux grass, field turf, lawn, pet turf, plastic grass, synthetic dog turf, synthetic lawn, synthetic turf, dog run, dog grass, happy pet owner, happy dog owner, playgrounds, playground surfacing, schools, day care centers, child care centers, theme parks, amusement parks, family fun, Disney, Disney theme parks, central park at Disney.
What about pet waste on my artificial grass lawn?

We highly recommend lightly rising the lawn about once a month. Doing this allows dirt to break down properly and to wash away pet waste. If your dog regularly uses your turf installation as their pee pad, you should wash the grass as soon as they’re done doing their business. If you don’t, your turf may be subject to locking in the smells. Also, pet urine contains bacteria that could eventually damage the turf, if your turf has its drainage blocked, so be mindful.

Although these seem a little difficult, artificial grass maintenance is nowhere near as cumbersome as maintaining a natural lawn. While yard work may have originally taken up a large chunk of your Saturdays or Sundays, it will now take a matter of minutes. If you want to learn more about artificial turf maintenance, call us today!

The Lifespan of Artificial Turf | Tampa, FL

THE LIFESPAN OF ARTIFICIAL TURF

Over the course of time, we’ve seen many different upgrades to artificial turf products. Everyone remembers the old school Astroturf products. These products had some of the same functionality, but they were nothing like modern artificial grass. Today’s turf is far more durable and lasts much longer, with warranties extending past 10 years. It is made from polypropylene and nylon, which allow them to be resilient against heavy foot traffic. With a solid understanding of how to maintain your artificial turf, it can last up to 25 years. You may not be familiar with how to maintain your artificial turf installation. Luckily, we have plenty of resources about turf maintenance. This article is about some things to keep in mind, when considering the lifespan of artificial turf.

KEEPING YOUR ARTIFICIAL TURF LOOKING GREAT

faux lawn, fake lawn, artificial grass lawn, artificial lawn, fake grass
There are several items you will not need after you have artificial grass installed.

One of the biggest reasons that people get artificial turf is that it reduces the amount of yard work. We are all familiar with having to mow, edge, reseed, and fertilize our lawns. It takes a lot of time and effort – time that could be spent doing other, more fulfilling things.

With artificial turf, all you need to do is occasionally rinse your turf off, and sometimes fluff the turf. In larger commercial installations, fluffing the turf will involve the use of a power broom. Fluffing the turf is important, especially if your installation is in an area with heavy foot traffic. You’ll definitely want to rake away the organic debris that falls from trees and bushes. When raking, make sure to be gentle with the turf, as it makes the infill looser. Loosening the infill is important because it boosts the blade elevation, making the turf look more natural. It’s also essential to remember to rinse off an area where a dog pees. If you keep these things in mind, your turf installation is very likely to have a long lifespan.

HOW IT’S MADE

One of the things that can influence the lifespan of artificial turf is the quality of the materials. Cheaper artificial turf tends to have a shorter lifespan, and is more likely to decompose over time. It can also experience discoloration very quickly, or be damaged by falling debris. For example, with high quality artificial turf, falling branches aren’t likely to damage it. With poorly made turf, falling branches during a storm can rip through the mesh backing. If you want to extend the lifespan of artificial turf that you buy, make sure that you’re buying the highest quality products.

INFILL MAKES A DIFFERENCE

lifespan of artificial turf aslowas99dollarspermonth,artificial grass, tampa bay, alternascapes,Sarasota,fl,puttinggreen, private, syntheticturf, artificialturf, synthetic grass, fake grass, residential, affordable, free estimate, happy client, testimonials, backyard paradise, backyard oasis
We can help you decide what kind of infill will work best for your project.

When getting artificial turf installed, make sure to do your homework about the best kind of infill for your purpose. For example, if you want to get an artificial turf putting green, silica sand is almost always the best choice. Although pet infills are great for front and backyard landscaping projects, they have disadvantages for putting greens. Specifically, sand infill allows to get a smoother roll for a putt, which is essential for improving your short game. On the other hand, selecting a sand infill may not be the best for a dog run because it’s more likely to retain odors from dog urine. Regardless, when buying turf, you need to get the right infill, or the lifespan may not be ideal.

Whatever the application of your turf, we know that the lifespan is important. If you want to learn more about artificial turf, or are ready to set an appointment, contact us today!

AlternaScapes celebrates 19 years of artificial turf!

On Sunday, January 15th, AlternaScapes quietly celebrated an important day.

It was our 19th Birthday!!!

What a long, crazy ride these 19 years have been!  From logos scratched out on napkins and marketing ideas scribbled in a notebook to a large, thriving company employing 30+ individuals.  From a 1-room office in a community office plaza to a huge warehouse and office complex, we’ve come so very far.  And throughout the years, one thing has kept us going – the idea that artificial grass is the wave of the landscaping future.

Synthetic turf is a solution for live grass problems that so many homeowners have – shady spots that don’t allow grass to grow, insect problems that eat up lawns, thin, patchy grass areas and more.  Dog-owners who are frustrated by the problems associated with live grass and pets – like dead spots in the lawn, dirt and mud tracked into the home, and dogs suffering from terrible allergies because of seasonal pollen love artificial grass.   Fake grass is a fantastic solution to playgrounds and open play areas for schools, day care centers and pet facilities.

Condos and apartment communities, museums and resorts recognize that artificial grass improves the look and feel of their event lawns and curb appeal.   And a backyard putting green is a wonderful solution for the golfer who wants to improve his or her short game in the comfort of their own back yard.  In fact, artificial turf works in almost all live grass applications, all while looking lush and gorgeous year after year.

We are so grateful for the amazing customers we’ve met along the way.   So many of our customers have come back to us for second and third areas they want to improve.  So many people have referred us to their friends and family.  And so many people have told us what a difference our artificial turf has made in the quality of their lives because they are able to spend their free time doing things they enjoy, instead of working on their lawns.

As we celebrate this important day in the life of our company, we raise a toast to all of you – our valued customers – who have made us the proud, successful company we are today.  Thank you for trusting us to install synthetic grass in your home or business.  We appreciate each and every one of you!

AlternaScapes – Celebrating our History

Looking back at our artificial grass company’s evolution…

…and looking forward to exciting new possibilities in 2017.

Twenty years ago, David Sheffer sold his business in upstate New York.  He stayed on as a Consultant for a few months to help the new owner learn the business and make a smooth transition.  Finding himself with some free time, he took up the game of golf.   Golf was a game he hadn’t had time for while he was a business owner and he fell in love with it.

The company logo in the early days.

In fact, David loved the game of golf so much, he decided to find a way to make it his new profession when he moved to Florida a few months later.  So he began searching for a business he could start that allowed him to stay in the golf world.  He found it – a company creating artificial putting greens in people’s backyards.  What a gift for a golfer, he thought!  And with so many golfers in Florida, he just knew the concept would be a huge hit.

So, he started making plans. From logo ideas sketched out on paper napkins and scribbled notes in a notebook, David’s mind raced with marketing and business ideas. His excitement grew and he couldn’t wait to make the move and get started making this new dream a reality.

In December of 1997, David packed up his belongs and moved to Florida.  In January, he officially started his business, which he named Personal Greens.  And he eagerly began marketing himself at trade shows, sometimes doing two different shows in one weekend, with the help of his father Bill.  David met and partnered with Neil McStravick and together, they expanded their vision of personal putting greens to tee lines, artificial grass lawns, synthetic turf playgrounds, event lawns and so much more.   They changed the company name to AlternaScapes (think Alternative Landscapes) and began working to grow their company.

The company name changed when we expanded to offer more than just putting greens.

Owning a business is like having a child – it takes hard work, patience, vision, love and lots and lots of grit.  David and Neil poured themselves into their company, sometimes working 7 days a week to do the marketing, selling, installations, and customer service.  David handled the administration – sales and marketing, website, and company infrastructure while Neil worked on the operations- coordinating the scheduling, deliveries and managing the work of the installations.   They worked tirelessly, day in and day out, to build their company.

All that sweat equity paid off.  The company grew…..and grew and grew.  Selling and installing putting greens, tee lines, playground areas, event lawns, residential lawns, pet resorts, condo gathering areas, rooftop decks for both residences and commercial locations, grass median areas and so much more, the company expanded with their vision.  They hired installers and sales people, bookkeepers and support staff.  The company thrived and now, almost 19 years later, AlternaScapes employs over 30 people. From The Villages to The Keys, we have sold and installed thousands of artificial grass projects – from small courtyard and trouble-spot areas in a residential lawn, to enormous playground, event lawn and small-field projects to a variety of pet-related parks and facilities.  And we are so proud of these 19 years in business.

As we close out 2016 and begin a new year, we want to take a moment to say Thank You to everyone who has been a part of this journey with us.  To all of our customers, vendor partners, referral partners and our dedicated staff and supporters, Thank You!   We are so grateful for this exciting adventure and for all the people who have trusted us to provide an artificial grass solutions for them.  We look forward to new adventures – and exciting new projects – in 2017!!!

Happy New Year to all of you.  Wishing you health, happiness and prosperity in the coming year!

Artificial Grass Is More Common Than You Might Think | Orlando, FL

Artificial Grass Is Everywhere!

Synthetic Turf is a viable option for problem grass areas.

Even though artificial grass has been around for decades, most people think it is just like the thin, cheap, uber-tacky green indoor-outdoor carpet that they’ve seen at home improvement stores.  Don’t worry – EasyTurf artificial grass is nothing like that. EasyTurf installed by AlternaScapes of Florida is thick and lush;  it looks real and feels real.

Calibri
The Sandpearl Resort on Clearwater Beach has our artificial grass installed on their event lawns area.

You have probably seen EasyTurf installed in several places without even realizing it.

Artificial grass is a huge hit at Resorts and Hotels and Country Clubs, because curb appeal is critical.  The landscaping must always be bright, beautiful and neat.  What better way to ensure a positive impression with guests than synthetic turf lawns, landscaping beds and event lawns?  AlternaScapes has installed artificial grass at many resorts, hotels and private clubs, helping the clients always have a picture-perfect look for members and guests.

Do you watch professional sports on TV?  Many professional (and some college) football teams have synthetic turf playing or practice fields.  Many of the NFL teams have either a practice field or playing field with EasyTurf synthetic turf. Teams like The Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions, Cincinnati Bengals, New York Giants and Jets (shared field) all play their home games on EasyTurf. More than 60 NCAA College Football teams play on EasyTurf as well. So if you watch football, you’ve probably seen EasyTurf and didn’t even realize it.

Discovery Cove-Logo-amusementpark-themepark-artificialgrass-artificialturf-syntheticgrass
AlternaScapes offers colors, logos and custom-designed synthetic turf areas.

There are even faux grass baseball fields.  Take a closer look next time you watch a game – you might be surprised by what you see!   That’s right…EasyTurf looks so real that most people can’t even tell it’s synthetic!

Theme parks are another place where you are likely to see synthetic turf. This makes sense when you think about it. Theme parks go to great lengths so their grounds always look good. Synthetic turf is a perfect product for them – it always looks good, no matter how much foot traffic an area gets, it’s always green, no matter how much rain or water it gets and there are never any unsightly spots from insects. It’s perfect for them and it can be the perfect solution for you, too.

You might also see EasyTurf at parks, public and private schools, churches, day care centers, pet care and pet training facilities, museums and event centers.

So, now that you know who else trusts EasyTurf to take care of their problems, think about your own grass issues. Are you embarrassed by your lawn? Are you tired of battling the damage caused by chinch bugs and mole crickets, lack of water (either from drought or irrigation restrictions) or from the family dog and/or children that are constantly tearing up the grass? Why would anyone keep putting in more live grass when it didn’t work the first time? Too much use and abuse, too much shade, lack of water, too much sun, whatever your reason, live grass isn’t the best answer under many different conditions.

Your lawn is the framework of your property. The most beautiful home loses all curb appeal when the grass is yellow and spotty. Then, rain and irrigation turns a spotty yard into a muddy yard… dirt and mud that ends up being tracked inside your home and onto your floors, carpets and furniture.
